Jean Thompson, BSN '63; MBA '71
2006 Missouri Tiger Pride
Many make volunteering a part of their lives; few make it a lifetime com - mitment. Jean Thompson is one of them.
Nominated by Caroline Davis, on behalf of the MU Nursing Alumni Organization, Jean embodies the highest levels of sustained volunteerism. Her 30 - year volunteer service has revealed itself in a variety of ways for MU, the Sinclair School of Nursing, the MU Nursing Alumni Organization and the Mizzou Alumni Association.
Jean is a sustaining member of the Jefferson Club and University of Missouri Fortnightly Club . This past year she has chaired two of their committees and par - ticipated in two additional committees as well.
For the Sinclair School of Nursing Jean has served as chair or co - chair of two celebratory committees, served as com - mittee member on four ongoing committees of the school and been an active member on the search committees of the last four deans of the School.
Not only generous with her time and talents, Jean is also generous with her do - nations. She is a founding and sustaining member of the Nightingale Society. She established and funded the Warner - Thompson Endowed Master's student in Nursing Administration Fellowship. And she is a life member of the Mizzou Alumni Association.
For the Nursing Alumni Organization we would like to list all her activities, but are concerned that there might not be time for dessert! The list is 1 page, single - spaced! We will include that Jean has served two terms as president, and is a recipient of the School's Citation of Merit Award. Her personal relationships and “go to” volunteerism have won her the respect of alumni, students, faculty and administrators.
With the Alumni Association Jean is active in legislative support, has served on the International Board of Directors, is an annual participant in Leaders Training and can be caught serving ice cream each year at Tiger Walk.
When Jean enters a room, wearing black and gold, it is clear that - - both inside and out - - she embodies Tiger Pride. |
