2003 Tiger Pride Award
Mitchell M. Murch
Missouri Tiger Pride Awardee
Mitchell M. Murch, BSBA ’52 With
more than 50 years of volunteer service
to the Association, including 17 years
as chairman the Alumni Center Management
Committee, and serving as Association
President in 1973, Mitchell Murch,
BSBA ’52, is the Missouri Tiger
Pride recipient. The name Mitch Murch
is synonymous with alumni centers at
Mizzou! While serving on the alumni
board in the late 1960s Mitch was appointed
chair of a development committee to
raise funds for a much-needed alumni
center building. After helping identify
a location and making many personal
visits with potential donors, the Center
became a reality in 1977. That was
MU’s first alumni center, but
it was not Mitch Murch’s first
volunteer effort. Immediately upon
graduation Mitch got involved with
his local alumni chapter, the St. Louis
Chapter and later served two terms
as chapter president, where he was
recognized for expanding the chapter’s
activities. Mitch has served the Association
in a variety of national roles. Appointed
to the Alumni Center Management Committee,
Mitch served on that committee as chairman
for 17 years. During his tenure, Mitch’s
committee played a key role in the
development of MU’s second alumni
building, the Donald W. Reynolds Alumni
Center. On the executive board, Mitch
has held every office, including serving
as President in 1973. As an active
member of the Past Presidents Council,
he has continued to particate in their
annual meeting and, just recently he
created and chaired the Association’s
efforts to raise money for the Madden
Tiger, the centerpiece of the Tiger
Plaza. The ability to achieve outstanding
professional success, coupled with
passionate, ongoing service to Mizzou
earned Mitch the coveted Faculty-Alumni
Award and then later, the Distinguished
Alumni Award.
