2000 Tiger Pride Award
Walter L. Pfeffer II
Time, money and talent - all gifts
of service that describe Tiger Pride Award
recipient, Walter L. Pfeffer, II.
Nominated by the Arts & Science
Alumni Board in honor of his exemplary
volunteerism, Wally's service for the
Alumni Association spans 18 years. As
a life member of the Alumni Association
and a sustaining member of the Jefferson
Club, Wally has established a foundation
of ongoing support for Mizzou. Even before
his graduation in 1989, he was an active
volunteer for the Boone County Chapter
- a role he continues to this day. But
that is only part of the story!
Many have benefited from Wally's
volunteerism. He has been a member of
the Association's Membership Committee
and the Arts & Science Leaders, including
serving as President. Currently he is
active on the Arts & Science Alumni
Board as their membership director. For
six years he served as a director on the
Alumni Association's board and as a representative
on the Executive Committee. He is a member
of the University Club, Faculty Incentive
Grant Committee, MU Political Action Committee,
and the Friends of the Libraries Board.
Recent service credits include the Association's
Long Rang Planning Committee and the Diversity
Committee.
By influence, invitation and personal
effort, Wally has recruited more than
50 new members to the Alumni Association,
attended numerous campus and alumni events,
and promoted the service of others for
Mizzou. He is no stranger to after-hours
and Saturday meetings, and he regularly
nominates others for awards that recognize
their volunteer efforts.
One of his nominators recalls,
"Wally Pfeffer embodies the vision I had
of MU alumni...I used to eye those black
and gold garbed collegiates at various
functions and wonder if I would grow up
to show the enthusiasm and love for this
institution that they seemed to share.
Now I have become one of them, and Wally
helped show me the way. ...no job that
promotes or unites the alums of MU or
advances the reputation of this institution
is too large or small for Wally's attention."
Civic and professional affiliations
include the Columbia Chamber of Commerce,
Boone County Citizens for Good Government,
Columbia Pachyderms, Columbia Association
of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and
(neighborhood association) During
the time he is not serving MU, Wally works
as Senior Service and Sales Representative
for Mutual of Omaha Companies and along
with his wife, Beverly, is raising their
daughter, Hilary, to be a Tiger!
