1999 Tiger Pride Award
Madelynn Garffie
Time, money and talent - all gifts
of service that describe our Tiger Pride
award winner, Madelynn Garffie.
Madelynn Garffie graduated from
the College of Human Environmental Sciences
in 1979 with a degree in Interior Design,
and, according to her nominator, Ron Graves,
"she bleeds black and gold and has roared
like a Tiger from the moment she graduated."
In addition to her years of service
on the HES Alumni Board, including serving
as president, Madelynn has also served
on the College's Environmental Design
Advisory Board, an honor that recognizes
her expertise in the field of design.
In the Kansas City area, Madelynn continues
as an active member of her local chapter
as co-chair of the scholarship committee,
host for the Honors Professor of the Year
award, and is in line to become the chapter
president next year.
For the Alumni Association, Madelynn
has given ongoing service through the
Center Management Committee and professional
advice with regard to the recent re-decorating
of the Alumni Center. With her 'spare'
time, Madelynn now serves MU as President
of the University Club.
One letter of support for Madelynn's
nomination includes: "she is a real doer,
a decision maker, filled with fresh ideas,
and always moving (us) forward." And,
her nominator asks, "What more can you
ask from an alum who has given 20 years
of service, financial support and advisory
support for students, except to hope for
20 more years"
We hope one more thing, Madelynn,
that you will accept this Tiger Pride
Award with our genuine thanks for all
you do for MU! |
