1998 Tiger Pride Award
Mary Ann Eggers Beahon
Mary Ann was nominated by Linda
McCall, of the Callaway County Alumni
Chapter for Mary Anns active leadership
of that chapter. Linda soon learned that
was only the tip of the iceberg!
Although she spent some time in
Kansas, moving to Florida was too far
from the Mizzou she loved, so Mary Ann
accepted an invitation to participate
on an alumni planning committee in Miami.
That proved to be a fateful event!
Soon, she became enmeshed in all
facets of alumni event planning. She arranged
several alumni events, including visits
from the Chancellor and the football coach,
picnics, luncheons, and TV watch parties.
In 1990 she was the founding president
of the South Florida Alumni Chapter which
included a 4-county area. She served in
that role for 3 years, leading the chapter
to Honor Status each year. She also served
on the scholarship selection committee.
In 1992 she was elected to serve
on the Alumni Association board of directors,
representing alumni from the Southeastern
Region. Even Hurricane Andrew could not
keep her from her volunteer duties, but
in 1995 she had to resign when she moved
back to Missouri and could no longer represent
alumni in Florida!!
That didnt stop her! She
was aghast that there was no alumni chapter
just 30 miles east of campus, so she set
about starting one. Again she organized
events, took pictures, kept scrapbooks,
wrote news releases, made phone calls,
and solicited new members. The Callaway
County Chapter was chartered in May, 1996,
has achieved Honor Status each year since
then and Mary Ann continues to serve on
the Chapter Board. |
