Making MU Stronger

Quad
The Mizzou Alumni Association proudly supports the best interests and traditions of Missouri’s flagship university and its alumni worldwide. Lifelong relationships are the foundation of our support. These relationships are enhanced through advocacy, communication and volunteerism.

Tax-deductible membership dues support alumni and student programs, communications, outreach and advocacy efforts on behalf of the University of Missouri.

How MAA Membership Supports Mizzou

1. Student Scholarship and Recruitment
Alumni Association members across the country recognize and recruit potential students to help maintain the high quality of applicants at Missouri. Every year, more than 200 students are helped with a total of $200,000 of scholarship support.

2. A Focus on Faculty
Through Faculty-Alumni Awards for Distinguished Teaching and Service Faculty members who have made a difference through exemplary teaching are rewarded and recognized, enhancing the University’s strong academic reputation. Alumni who have reached notable achievements focus attention on the vital relationship of alumni in promoting the best interests of the university. Since 1994 more than $250,000 has been awarded to support junior faculty with Faculty Incentive Grants for research or professional development to better teach MU’s students.

3. Stewardship of Important Campus Resources and Programs
The Association annually contributes financial and other support for a variety of key campus programs and services. Examples include funding for Ellis Library, Marching Mizzou and other campus student organizations.

4. Providing Bookends for the Student Experience
The Association-sponsored Tiger Walk is an August back-to-school event where the campus welcomes incoming freshmen and transfer students to the university and helps them get off to a good start in their lifelong relationship with MU. During Senior Sendoff in May, graduating seniors mark the beginning of their alumni relationship with the University at this farewell event and learn ways to stay close to their alma mater.

5. A National Network of Alumni
More than 100 active alumni chapters worldwide offer opportunities for service and friendship, connecting a strong network of MU alumni attending more than 1,000 activities annually with an attendance of more than 100,000. Fifteen school/college organizations of alumni with common interests assist in recruiting students, raise money for scholarships, honor outstanding alumni and support the advancement of their schools/colleges.

6. Alumni in Residence Program
The student-run Alumni Association Student Board safeguards the traditions of our alma mater, fosters a sense of pride within the Mizzou community and oversees the student True Tiger alumni in residence program. AASB members often continue their involvement as volunteers. More than 5,500 undergraduate and graduate member True Tigers receive benefits, services, and discounts that enhance their University experience while building a lifelong connection with their alma mater.

7. University of Missouri Advocates
Alumni serve through the Mizzou Legislative Network as advocates for higher education while keeping Mizzou front-of-mind with Missouri and federal legislators.

8. Bringing Alumni Home
Homecoming at the University of Missouri is the oldest and one of the largest celebrations in the nation. With its historical focus on students, this campus tradition receives leadership from the Association and keeps alumni coming back to Columbia each fall. Through class year reunions the Association coordinates the return every spring of the graduates of 50 years ago as they renew friendships and continue their support of, and involvement with the University of Missouri.

9. Keeping Alumni Informed
MIZZOU, our award-winning, thought-provoking magazine keeps members connected with campus news, campus activities, and each other. Association members make it possible for all MU alumni to connect to campus through the pages of MIZZOU magazine four times each year. @Mizzou, the Association’s monthly electronic newsletter brings MU’s breaking news stories to alumni and
www.mizzou.com is a resource of information and entertainment for all MU grads and Tiger Fans.

10. Keeping You Connected
The Mizzou Network is used for networking and career advancement through the Association’s web-based services, including MizzouNet - MU's online social community.

During Leaders Weekend alumni volunteers return to Mizzou each fall for a weekend to interact with campus leaders, sharpen their leadership skills and learn the state of the University. Leaders share ideas and renew their involvement with MU during the conference. The Tiger Pride and Mizzou G.O.L.D. awards recognize four alumni for ongoing leadership and service.
