About Us
Traditions are what draw us in and pull us back. They are cherished and revered. They give us chills and create wonderful memories. Upon them many great things can be built. They create the tie that binds our students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The Mizzou Alumni Association (MAA) experienced another successful fiscal year with tremendous growth in a number of areas over the 2010-11 year. Phase 8 and 9 of the Mizzou Legacy Walk were installed, with the project raising more than $121,820.00
for student scholarships. The association also awarded over $342,150 in scholarships to 268 students, a record total.
The alumni association held 1,305 events with total attendance of 172,026 alumni and friends. The association engaged 1,255 alumni volunteers around the globe to actively support the university, association, chapters and organizations. One of the association’s primary missions is to keep alumni connected to the university. More than ever, alumni are keeping in touch through social media, including 9,000+ Facebook fans, 7,850 followers on Twitter, and 16,750 members joining Mizzou's LinkedIn group.
The quarterly MIZZOU magazine arrived at approximately 192,600 households, and @Mizzou, a monthly electronic newsletter, reached 105,000 alumni for whom the alumni association has registered e-mail addresses. The association also sent more than 156,738 mailings and 4.5 million e-mails to alumni to provide further information about activities, programs and promotions.
The association received recognition from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in three categories: Gold for Excellence in Websites for Mizzou.com, Silver for Excellence in Fundraising Materials, and Silver for Excellence in Alumni Programming. It has been another great year for the association, and our success is due to our strong tradition of alumni support. Every day, association staff and governing board members have a front row seat to witness this tradition.
