Beat Shirts Premiere to Spirited Crowd

Beat shirt giveawayHundreds of True Tigers lined up outside Reynolds Alumni Center the morning of September 11 to get their paws on a new tradition – BEAT t-shirts.

Gold BEAT t-shirts will be distributed prior to the first five home games and are free for True Tigers. The Beat Bowling Green shirt is the first of the series. Each shirt promotion there are a limited number of shirts that are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The idea originated from a similar program at the University of Florida and was made possible this year for the first time at Mizzou. “We’re excited to do something to support the Tigers while also providing a great benefit for our members,” said Carrie Bien, the association’s coordinator of student programs. “This is an idea we’ve been discussing for awhile now, so it will be great to go to the game tomorrow and see so many True Tigers wearing their BEAT shirts.”

Students began lining up at 9 am to get their BEAT Bowling Green shirt just in time to wear to the weekend’s home opener. “This is my first football game and I’m excited for Mizzou to tear up Bowling Green,” said freshman Chris Weaver. He said he picked up a BEAT Bowling Green shirt to “show my Tiger Pride.”

For True Tigers who were unable to pick up a shirt on September 11, more shirts will be available the Friday prior to the Mizzou vs. Furman football game. Three hundred BEAT t-shirts will be available for students beginning at 10 am on Sept. 18 on the east side of Reynolds Alumni Center. That week, t-shirt tickets will be distributed at 9:45 am to be redeemed beginning at 10 am. Because of the limited number of shirts, only those with a ticket will able to pick up a BEAT t-shirt.

Sponsors of the popular Beat T-shirts include: The Cottages of Columbia, CenturyLink, Which Wich, Kaplan, and the The Flying Cow.

True Tigers is the student chapter of the Mizzou Alumni Association. With more than 5,500 members, True Tigers is one of the largest student alumni organizations in the nation. Learn more about True Tigers at www.truetiger.com.
