Described by one nominator as “bleeding gold Sunday through Tuesday, black Wednesday through Friday, and black and gold on Saturdays,” it is clear that Ray Perez embodies the Tiger spirit. This pride in Mizzou was evident from the moment Ray stepped on campus through his involvement with organizations such as MSA, Greek Life and the Mizzou Alumni Association Student Board. When Ray earned his degree from Mizzou in 1997, his involvement with the university and association didn’t graduate with him.
Over the past few years, Ray has worked to reestablish the Southeast Missouri Black & Gold Alumni Chapter, an alumni chapter originally founded in 1906. The organization has thrived as a result of Ray’s vision and, as one nominator stated his leadership has been wonderful and the chapter would not exist today were it not for Ray.
As a chapter leader, Ray has worked with other board members to organize events in southeast Missouri including service projects, student recruitment events, and a Tiger Caravan. Annually, the chapter has a full calendar of events and was recognized earlier today with a Capstone award, the Association’s highest level of recognition for chapters participating in the Columns Program.
Ray Perez’s involvement with Mizzou is a reflection of his passion for Missouri’s flagship university. As a result, Ray was unanimously nominated by the nominating committee and board of directors of the Southeast Missouri Black and Gold Alumni Chapter. His passion, leadership, and enthusiasm for Mizzou have helped catapult the chapter, spreading the black and gold throughout southeast Missouri.
For his outstanding leadership, the Mizzou Alumni Association is proud to present the 2007 Missouri Mizzou G.O.L.D. Award to Ray Perez.
