How MAA Membership Benefits Mizzou
Your association membership
will provide support for the following programs on behalf of the University:
Alumni Association Student Board (AASB)
AASB members attend alumni events, conduct an annual
membership drive, help coordinate events for student members of the association
and provide the perspective of "alumni in residence".
Alumni
Athletic Events
The association sponsors Tiger Tailgates and rallies for all
football games and some selected basketball games with special pricing for all
MAA members. With the athletic department, the association co-sponsors the
Mizzou Tiger Caravan each spring in which Mizzou coaches travel around the
state of Missouri.
Diversity Programs
The association works with affiliated organizations and other
campus offices to coordinate activities for alumni and students who share
similar interests and experiences.
Faculty-Alumni Awards
The Faculty-Alumni awards focus
attention on achievements and on the vital relationship between faculty and
alumni in promoting the best interests of the University. The association also recognizes
outstanding teaching with the Distinguished Faculty Award and meritorious
service with the Distinguished Service Award. Contact the association for
nomination forms.
Faculty Incentive Grants
Faculty at Mizzou can apply for funding of special projects,
thanks to the Faculty Development Incentive Grants. These grants support
quality faculty projects that otherwise would not be funded by the University.
Homecoming
In 1911, Athletic Director Chester Brewer issued a call to all
alumni to “come home” for the Missouri-Kansas game and over 9,000 Mizzou alumni
packed Rollins Field. Thousands of alumni and friends still “come home” to Mizzou
each year for the oldest and one of the largest Homecomings in the nation. For
current information, please call toll-free (888) 292-MUHC.
Leaders’ Weekend
Alumni return to Mizzou each Fall for a weekend of leadership
activities and fun! Campus leaders present the state of the university and
interact with alumni. Volunteers share ideas, tour the campus, and renew their
involvement with MU during a day-long conference.
Mizzou Legislative Network
MLN informs interested alumni about legislative issues which
affect MU and higher education.
MIZZOU Magazine
This four-color magazine is mailed quarterly to MU graduates
and association members to keep them informed about events at Mizzou, in and
around Columbia, and in the lives of their friends and classmates.
Reunions
Each spring the association welcomes back graduates of 50
years ago and Gold Medal alumni (graduates of more than 50 years) to renew
friendships and reconnect with their alma mater.
Scholarship Program
To help top-quality students attend MU, the association’s
Alumni Scholars Program provides three at-large scholarships, one international
scholarship and one scholarship on behalf of each chartered alumni chapter and
school/college alumni organization.
Student Recruitment
Bright, dedicated students are the lifeblood of Mizzou and
alumni are committed to recruiting the best. “Tiger Trackers” contact
applicants to answer questions and encourage their enrollment.
Tiger Walk
The Tiger Walk welcomes freshmen with a walk through the
columns towards Jesse Hall to symbolize their entrance into the University. For
a brochure describing this and many other Mizzou traditions, please contact the
association.
Time of the Tiger – Founder’s Celebration
This annual celebration honors the 1839 founding of the
University of Missouri, and showcases Mizzou’s current successes. Founders’ Celebration is usually held in February and includes a campus reception coupled
with an athletic event. Alumni chapters worldwide also host concurrent events.
Tourin' Tiger Program
Throughout the year, Tiger alumni and friends take their
Mizzou spirit around the globe on more than a dozen cruises and land tours. For
a current schedule, please contact the association.
Volunteer
Awards Program
The Tiger Pride awards and Mizzou G.O.L.D. awards recognize
three alumni for ongoing leadership and service through the association or any
of its organizations. These awards are presented each fall at the annual
Leaders Banquet in Columbia.
